A poignant moment in Manipur captured in photos
Later this year, Shavei Israel will be bringing a large group of 250 Bnei Menashe immigrants from northeast India to Israel on Aliyah. Meanwhile, thousands of them are still in India, waiting for the opportunity to join their relatives and friends in the Jewish state.
This week, a group of Bnei Menashe women did the only thing left for them to do to hasten the upcoming Aliyah and that of the rest of their members: they prayed.
A number of women gathered together in the Beit Shalom community center in Manipur to recite Tehilim (Psalms) and appeal to the One Above for the upcoming aliyah to happen soon. This moving event was captured in photos by Shavei representative in Manipur, Meital Singson.
The timing of Bnei Menashe Aliyah this year depends in part on funding. The cost per immigrant is just US $1,000, which covers airfare and transportation from India to Israel as well as some of the initial absorption costs. For every $1,000 that is raised, one of these women or another Bnei Menashe will be able to make the long journey home to Zion.
