12 Sep A Shavei Israel ‘Simcha’ in Colombia
A big mazal tov goes out to Rabbi Shimon Yehoshua, our emissary in Colombia, on his marriage to Helen, of Bogota, Colombia, in Bogota this week!
The wedding was attended by dignitaries, friends and relatives from far and wide including Chief Rabbi of Bogota Alfredo Goldschmidt, Rav Elad Villegas, the Director of ACIC (Association of Israeli Communities in Colombia), Rav Asher Abrabanel, rabbi of the community Maguen Abraham in Cali Colombia, Rav Shimon’s father and brother and his brother’s family who came from Israel as well as his mother and aunt who came from Argentina.
Rabbi Shimon Yeshoshua was born in Argentina and received his rabbinic ordination in Jerusalem at the Beit Hamidrash Hasefaradí. He is a graduate of the Amiel Institute, which prepares Rabbis for the Diaspora. He served as Rabbi of the city of Pattaya in Thailand, and was the general program coordinator for Latin America of Bnei Akiva. He taught at the Yeshiva Torah beTzión and at Midreshet Lindenbaum and worked as a mashgiach kashrut in Argentina. Currently he is a Shavei Israel emissary in Colombia and is also in touch with Bnei Anousim communities of some neighboring countries.
Rav Shimon has now been with Shavei for more than six years. During this time he assisted many families in coming back to their roots and making aliyah to Israel, Currently he is responsible for the communities in Colombia, Recently he has been in contact with communities in Ecuador and in the near future he will visit a community in Guatemala.
We wish Rav Yehoshua and his new wife, Helen, a lifetime of happiness and blessings, and, together, may they continue to help the Jewish nation!
