Shomriah kids make summer fun for Bnei Menashe
The community of Shomria in the northern Negev decided to open a special summer camp for the children of the Bnei Menashe community from Upper Nazareth and host them in their community. The camp took place last week and was attended by 19 children from Bnei Menashe, aged 6 to 14, who were joined by two other girls from the Bnei Menashe community to help camp counselors.
The summer camp, which was fully funded, and run in cooperation with Shavei Israel, included: recreational activities, a drumming circle, a trip through the forest, challenging group activities, a sugar dough workshop and a chocolate workshop. It concluded with a special Shabbat where the community hosted 90 people from Upper Nazareth, included the campers’ parents as well as relatives and friends from the community.
Michael Freund, our founder & chairman, was thrilled with the initiative: “This wonderful initiative is another important step in the process of absorption and integration of immigrants from the Bnei Menashe community in Israeli society. The summer camp not only allows the Bnei Menashe children to have unforgettable experiences during the summer vacation, but it provides a real opportunity for their parents to build vital relationships with veteran Israeli parents. ”
