Kosher wine in Portugal

Kosher wine in Portugal

Yitzchak De Oliveira is our representative in Portugal and responsible for Shavei Israel’s ‘Anusim House’ in the city of Belmonte.

Recently, Yitzchak was certified as a kashrut supervisor, and participated in the production process and eventually the presentation of the new Castelo Rodrigo wine.

In November, the Cooperativa Figueira de Castelo Rodrigo winery began to make kosher wine with the Tam Kosher certifier from Israel. Twenty-five-thousand bottles of red wine were made with native grapes, but, due to COVID 19, they could not be bottled until recently. Now, in collaboration with the Municipal Chamber of Figueira de Castelo Rodrigo and Aldeas Históricas de Portugal, the wine was finally introduced in the historic town of Castelo Rodrigo.

Rabbi Elisha Salas, who served the Bnei Anusim community in Portugal as an emissary of Shavei Israel, was in charge of the supervision of the wine production, and Yitzchak assisted him as a supervisor in the process. Unfortunately, Rabbi Salas could not participate in the presentation due to his traveling.

With great pleasure, Ytzjak, the director of the winery D. Antonio Madeira, and the President of the Municipal Chamber participated in the display.

Below are some images of the joyous event.
