06 Feb Machon Milton is off to a running start
This week was cause for celebration as the Shavei Israel staff joined several rabbis and teachers in greeting ten students from around the world who have one important thing in common: they have all chosen to join the Jewish faith and are the first students at the brand new Machon Milton, the English language Ulpan Giyur (Jewish conversion course) that Shavei Israel and its partner in this endeavor, the Rabbinical Council of America (RCA) has opened in Jerusalem, under the auspices of the Chief Rabbinate of Israel.
The RCA ran a conversion course in English in Jerusalem for many years but it closed down about 12 years ago and there hasn’t been one like it until now.
And so it was with more than a bit of pomp and circumstance that the class of ten students got it’s start.
In attendance, besides for the staff of Shavei Israel led by founder and chairman Michael Freund, were Rabbi Moshe Weller the head of the Conversion Department of the Rabbinate, Rabbi Reuven Tradburks, Director of the RCA’s Israel Region, Louis Lipsky, Senior Coordinator for Task Planning & Financial Support of the the Conversion Authority, and Rabbi Michoel Zylberman, Director of Conversion Courts of the RCA.
Also in attendance were Rabbi Aaron Goldscheider and Mrs. Dafna Siegman, teachers at the new program, and Rabbis Shmuel Goldin and Aaron Poston.
