24 Jul Personal Profile: Renán Muñoz Palacios of Ecuador
We work with many communities around the world and occasionally will profile some of the amazing locals who volunteer as representatives. These generous individuals help us organize our activities in the best way possible, and reach more people in their respective regions. One of these people is Renán (Yacov Ben Abraham) Muñoz Palacios of Ambato, Ecuador.
Ecuador has several Bnei Anousim communities. One of them is located in the city of Ambato and numbers some 40 people. Previously we wrote about a visit of Shavei Israel’s emissary Rabbi Shimon Yehoshua to Ecuador in order to reach this community and hold their Torah classes. Renan Munoz Palacious is one of the people whom Rabbi Yehoshua helped to formally convert to Judaism and reconnect with the heritage of his ancestors.
Since then, Renan has become a community leader in Ambato and continued his Torah studies in the Pirchei Shoshanim yeshiva to become a Rabbi and be able to assist his community in a more effective way. He is grateful to Shavei Israel for the opportunity it provides to Jews in the most distant parts of the world.
“For me,” declares Renan, “Shavei means the help that a person who loves Torah needs. It is like an oasis in the desert, since in the countries of South America it is quite difficult to find adequate help. I feel happy to be part of this organization and thus be able to help other people.”
The Ambato community shared photos taken during the 17th of Tammuz – a fast day starting the three-weeks mourning period commemorating the destruction of the Second Temple.
