24 Dec Rabbi Elisha Salas meets with the new Ambassador of Portugal in Israel
Rabbi Elisha Salas, Shavei Israel’s emissary in Spain and Portugal, met recently with João Bernardo Weinstein, the new Portuguese Ambassador to Israel; Irith Freudenheim, the economic attaché of the embassy, also attended the meeting.
During the meeting, several issues were discussed within the context of the cultural exchange between the two countries, such as the dissemination of both Jewish culture in Portugal and Portuguese Jewish heritage in Israel. Rabbi Salas spoke with the ambassador about the work of Shavei Israel in Portugal, including several topics discussed during previous meetings with the rabbi and the previous ambassador, Miguel Almeida e Sousa.
“I was very pleased to meet the ambassador and I am very grateful for his open mind in understanding the Jewish issue in Portugal, our history and our evolution to the present day,” the rabbi said. “I’m glad to meet with Irith again and happy to once again demonstrate cooperation between Portugal and Israel. Congratulations to Portugal for having such a wonderful representative in Israel.”
We totally agree with his words. May it be the beginning of a fruitful collaboration!
