Shavei Israel Chairman Michael Freund to speak at conference in Goa, India

Goa conference programShavei Israel Chairman Michael Freund will be flying to India at the beginning of February – this time not to visit the Bnei Menashe in their villages, but to speak about the community at a conference on “The Judeo-Christian Heritage of the West Coast of India.”

The conference, which takes place in the city of Panaji in Goa, which is itself on the west coast of the country, will run for a full day and also includes sessions on “The Restoration of Village Synagogues in Kerala” and “Ancient and Present Anti-Semitism.” Rabbi Ezekiel Isaac Malekar, head of the Judah Hyam Synagogue in New Delhi, will give a presentation on the tiny community, which serves diplomats and tourists along with the 7-8 remaining local Jewish families who live in India’s capital.
