Shavei Israel translates Shema into Chinese for Kaifeng Jewish community
Shavei Israel has launched a new series of translations into Chinese to better familiarize the small Jewish community living in Kaifeng, China, with various aspects of Jewish observance. The translations cover various prayers, blessings and ceremonies. The first two are now ready: the familiar Shema Yisrael prayer and the Asher Yatzer blessing, both of which are repeated several times during the day.
The new translations have been intentionally designed in a manner that will make them easy to hang on a wall in the home, in order that they can serve as a visible sign of Jewish life, as well as being easy to access.
Next on the list: the blessing before lighting the Shabbat candles.
