Shavei Israel’s emissary visited the Beit Toldot community of Ecuador
The Beit Toldot community is located in the city of Guayaquil, Ecuador and consists of approximately 10 families who decided to reconnect with their Jewish roots under the supervision of Rabbi Shimon Yehoshua, Shavei Israel’s emissary in Colombia. The recent Shabbat was very special for them due to a personal visit of the rabbi to Ecuador, just when Jews all over the world start to get ready to the approaching Passover.
Bnei Anousim (descendants of forced converts during the Spanish Inquisition) of Guayaquil lead a traditional Jewish life and do their best to keep Torah and commandments, learn Talmud and sacred Jewish texts, celebrate Jewish holidays and strengthen their connection with the land of Israel. During Rabbi Yehoshua’s visit, several mezuzot were affixed in the houses.
The Beit Toldot members gather together on a regular basis for public prayers, Shabbat and holidays celebrations and parties, as well as for weekly classes.
Here are some highlights of the recent visit to Guayaquil and the life of this flourishing community.
