Subbotnik Jew, 71, makes first visit to the Western Wall

This week was very special for Anna Lazarevna Bocharnikova, a Vysoki native who’s currently staying in Beit Shemesh with her family. On Tuesday she visited the Kotel (Western Wall) for the first time in her life and enjoyed a wonderful walk on the streets of the Old City of Jerusalem. During her visit to Israel, Anna Lazarevna celebrated her 71st birthday.

Anna Lazarevna was accompanied by her friend and another Vysoki native, Tova Filchagova, who made aliyah five years ago with the support of Shavei Israel. Previously we wrote about Tova’s story and her exciting experience of teaching Hebrew and Jewish tradition to her fellow villagers during many years before her aliyah. Tova also worked in the Vysoki Sunday school and was one of the community leaders.

The women shared a few photos, taken near the Western Wall and in the Old City, with us.
